How To Be Prepared For The Coronavirus
With the news of the coronavirus’s (2019-nCoV) arrival in the U.S., a dialogue is now in order. The virus is killing people quickly and in large numbers. It makes sense to take whatever precautions are necessary and possible. We need to spread awareness.
Basics
The virus is said to have originated from contaminated meat sources in the Chinese province of Hubei, of which the capital is Wuhan. It is officially known as 2019-nCoV. We know that it mainly targets the upper respiratory area in humans. Pneumonia-like symptoms are likely to be present in the event of an infection.
The CDC lists fever, cough, and shortness of breath specifically. As of this writing, there have been more than 35,000 reported cases of infection and over 800 deaths as a result of this fast-moving disease.
How It Spreads
There is currently no known vaccine for 2019-nCoV. The body essentially needs time, as with any virus, to manufacture its own response to the corona antigens. The virus spreads through physical contact and airborne particles released through sneezing and coughing.
Particularly surprising about 2019-nCoV is that, while the incubation period is anywhere between 2 and 14 days, it may be transmitted unwittingly from one person to another. You would not…
