Choose Commitment Over Motivation
I’ve just read a letter in my inbox from Benjamin Hardy. He’s a thought leader, the author of "Why Will Power Doesn’t Work", a wonderful medium writer, and a successful web entrepreneur. At first glance, I just let it sit there.
I normally don’t read the emails I receive from newsletters. Even though I sign up for them, and most likely, the authors just want to help, some part of me just feels like they’re going to try to sell me something. This morning was different.
The title of this email was, "Why Even Ambitious People Rarely Succeed". At first glance, I thought to myself, ‘Ambitious people DO succeed. What is he talking about?’
Authentic Frauds
As I read on further, he began to write about authenticity and how it’s quite possibly the one idea that kills our potential for success.
‘Authenticity?’, I thought. ‘Isn’t it good to be true to one’s self? In fact, isn’t this how one becomes successful?'
Yet, Hardy reasons that 'authentic' people are those most unwilling to change. They’ve spent so much time forming the image of themselves in their minds that they have unrealistic mental impressions of reality.
