“When a police officer is called to someone’s home, their first instinct should be to assist…not kill. While they have to be ready for anything, their training has taught them (hopefully) how to identify a threat. What kind of coward shoots an unarmed woman? In her own home?!”

These were my thoughts when I heard the story of the young woman, Sonya Massey, recently gunned downed in her kitchen by a trigger happy police officer over a pot of boiling water and her religious beliefs. I was enraged. I mean, by now, we should seriously be past this. I’m afraid however, that we may be witnessing the beginning of a new more heinous era, under Donald Trump, of police brutality towards all people but specifically, Black people.

Sonya Massey’s murder indicates the temperature in America at the moment. With the recent attempt on Donald Trump’s life (I still have my skepticism about the optics, timing, and reality of everything we’re being shown), the rhetoric coming from both sides towards Black people about…
